Privacy Policy

Who we are

Nearish is a private mobile app for long-distance couples and close friendships, built and operated by Nearish Inc. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@nearish.app.

What we collect

We collect only what's necessary to make the app work:

• Account information — your name, email address, and the relationship type you choose during onboarding.
• Content you create — prompt answers, memories (photos, videos, voice notes), notes, calendar events, status updates, and vent room posts. All of this is end-to-end encrypted and only accessible by you and your synced partner.
• Usage data — basic analytics like which features you use and how often, to help us improve the product. Never tied to your content.
• Device information — device type, OS version, and crash logs, solely for debugging and support.
• Payment information — processed entirely through Apple's App Store. We never see or store your card details.

What we don't collect

• We do not track your location.
• We do not access your contacts, camera, or microphone except when you explicitly grant permission to upload a photo or record a voice note.
• We do not build advertising profiles.
• We do not sell, share, or license your data to any third party, ever.

How we use your data

Your data is used for exactly three things:

• To provide the Nearish service — syncing your Space, delivering prompts, storing your memories.
• To communicate with you about your account — receipts, security notices, product updates you've opted into.
• To improve the product using aggregate, anonymised usage patterns.

Encryption and security

All content you create in Nearish — prompt answers, memories, notes, vent room posts, messages — is encrypted end-to-end. This means it is encrypted on your device before it leaves, and can only be decrypted by you and your synced partner. We cannot read it. Our servers store only ciphertext.

Data is stored on Firebase (Google Cloud) with encryption at rest and in transit. We conduct regular security reviews.

The Vent Room

Vent Room posts have a 24-hour TTL. When the timer expires, the post and all associated replies are permanently deleted from our servers. We do not archive or retain this content. There is no recovery window after expiry.

Data retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all your content — memories, notes, prompt answers, calendar events — is permanently deleted within 30 days. Your partner's content in a shared Space is handled by their own account settings.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access all data we hold about you — email privacy@nearish.app
• Delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Profile tab in the app
• Export your memories and prompt history (coming soon)
• Opt out of non-essential communications at any time

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, you have additional rights under GDPR / UK GDPR including the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Children

Nearish is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you via email and in-app notification at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the app after that date constitutes acceptance.
